Bird & Cage is an exclusive American eyewear brand from New York, founded by eyewear designer and craftsman Max Shustovskiy, an American designer and artisan with over thirty years of experience in the optical industry. Before launching his own brand in 2015, he spent years working for the renowned Alain Mikli, where his work was highly appreciated by both the brand and a discerning clientele of celebrities, artists, and business people. After Alain Mikli was acquired by eyewear giant Luxottica, Max decided to forge his own path: he designed his first signature frame, and Bird & Cage quickly grew into a recognised brand.
Each frame is meticulously crafted entirely by Max himself, from the initial sketch to the final assembly – a process that requires approximately 72 hours of careful handcraftsmanship, resulting in refined lines, noble materials, and exceptional quality. The frames are made from buffalo horn, one of the oldest materials in eyewear history, with a natural beauty ranging from honey-coloured to deep chestnut and black, and available in transparent as well as opaque, plain and mottled variations. Buffalo horn is also remarkably light – about thirty percent lighter than the same frame in acetate – skin-friendly, non-allergenic, and quickly adapts to skin temperature, ensuring year-round comfort.
