Mykita Eyewear: Handmade designer glasses from Berlin, screwless
Mykita is an independent German eyewear brand, founded in Berlin in 2003 by Moritz Krueger. The company began in a former children's nursery – a 'Kita' in German – from which the brand name was born, alongside the curious, playful culture that has characterised the brand ever since. As there was no manufacturer at the time capable of realising their original designs, Mykita decided to bring production entirely in-house – a principle that remains one of the brand's greatest strengths to this day. In 2014, the company moved to a historic building in Berlin's Kreuzberg, now known as Mykita Haus, where a diverse team led by Krueger oversees every product from design to production.
Characteristic is the patented hinge construction without screws, solder joints, or glue: frame components are cut from thin sheets of stainless steel and then shaped by hand into ultra-light, technically refined frames. In addition to the metal collections and colourful acetate frames, Mykita also developed its own material, MYLON, a 3D-printed bio-based nylon that is extremely light and flexible. The brand has also collaborated with renowned names such as Maison Margiela, Leica, RIMOWA, OAMC, and 032c.
