Masahiro Maruyama eyewear
Masahiro Maruyama is an independent Japanese eyewear brand founded in 2011 by the designer of the same name. All frames are handmade in Sabae, in Japan's Fukui prefecture: the region that has been the heart of the Japanese eyewear industry for more than a century. Choosing Masahiro Maruyama glasses means choosing a frame that deliberately breaks with the idea that glasses must be perfectly symmetrical and polished smooth.

The designs are rooted in wabi-sabi, the age-old Japanese philosophy of the beauty of transience and the perfection of imperfection. You see it in every detail: subtle signs of wear, visible repairs and asymmetrical shapes give each frame a lived-in, idiosyncratic character. The brand itself calls its work 'Unfinished Art': glasses that deliberately look unfinished, yet are thought through down to the smallest detail.

Masahiro Maruyama works with titanium, acetate or a combination of both, and every frame is made entirely by hand by experienced Japanese craftspeople. In 2020 the brand won the prestigious Silmo d'Or for optical frame design. For anyone looking for glasses with character, Japanese craftsmanship and a philosophy that goes beyond fashion, a Masahiro Maruyama frame is a special and meaningful choice.
